As part of our Institutional Blindfold series, we now explore how AI-generated summaries are fundamentally reshaping organizational memory and public accountability.
While these tools offer convenience, they often flatten nuance and erase dissenting views, creating a polished version of events that may eventually replace the actual record. This creates a “memory blindfold” where the legal and administrative truth is narrowed to whatever the AI highlights as important.
To counter this, we need robust governance, and suggest that institutions must preserve the original context, prompts, and metadata to ensure transparency.
Relying solely on simplified outputs risks turning the official record into a mask rather than a witness to the truth.
